Brad
Kurtzberg is the author of a forthcoming book on the California Seals.
This book is over two years in the making and I have conducted over 100
interviews of former Seals players, coaches, employees and fans in preparation
for this book. The book will be chock full of interesting and hilarious
stories that recall a time when very few players wore helmets, the NHL
was 95% Canadian, hippies roamed the streets of San Francisco, we had
oil shortages, the Patty Hearst kidnapping and some great hockey. The
Seals came along just when the NHL was doubling in size, the relationship
between players and management was starting to change and the WHA was
challenging the NHL for players and the attention of fans. This book contains
references to everybody from Hell's Angels to Bing Crosby; Charlie Finley
to Bill Torrey; Charles Schulz to Tom Hanks and of course, the players
who made the Seals unique and special. Learn about the goalie who stripped
between periods, the woman who streaked across the ice on skates, the
crying coach, how to say "Seals" in French, what Charlie Finley
really had planned for his hockey team, the Bill Masterton incident and
so much more. This web site will have more information and details about
the book and a place for you to share your memories about the Seals. This
site and the book are a labor of love. I hope that you enjoy reading it
as much as I enjoyed writing it.
